Alumni Spotlight: Eduardo Garcia

Eduardo became an HSC scholar in the Fall of 2016. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018 with a Bachelors degree in Music Studies with a certificate in Music Performance. He entered this career with the goal of becoming a middle or high school teacher in Texas.

Not long after, Eduardo is now a Band teacher at Spillane Middle School in Cypress, Texas. At the middle school, his responsibilities include directing the Concert Winds, as well as teaching beginners how to play the clarinets, trombones, and double reeds.

As a music lover, he spends his free time reading books to improve his knowledge about the field of Music Education. In addition, he likes to look for new places to eat with his close friends in Houston.

Eduardo attributes the position he holds today to his experience as an HSC scholar:

"HSC really helped me network myself out to local school districts as well as with people outside of my major. I remember attending a few of the workshops that helped me make connections, build my resume, and give me interview practice."

Eduardo's plans to continue his education include earning his Masters degree either in Wind Conducting or Music Education from his alma mater. By the time he reaches that point, he wishes to hold the position of Head Band Director at a middle school.

We look forward to seeing what Eduardo continues to accomplish!
