Alumni Spotlight: Cynthia Lopez

In 2021, HSC Scholar Cynthia graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Human Resource Development. After graduation, Cynthia obtained a position in HR, where she later discovered her passion for entrepreneurship. She opened a food truck with her mother, which led her to return to school to acquire a Hospitality and Event Planning certification. Cynthia is working towards planning corporate events and pursuing a further certification in Project Management.

Cynthia describes her years in college as the best time of her life with HSC, providing leadership development opportunities and creating a set of skills she uses daily. She studied abroad three times, connecting with professionals and creating friendships she still holds. Cynthia described switching between a full-time student and a full-time worker as tricky. However, she learned skills along the way, such as combining her personal and professional goals, which helped balance her purpose and passion.

Through her years in HSC, Cynthia strengthened her Hispanic identity and felt more confident in who she was and what she was capable of. Seeing other Latinos has motivated her to pursue her passions and inspire others. She believes that knowing what you don't know and what you do know and focusing on what you enjoy are critical principles in succeeding and impacting the community.

"I want people to believe in themselves by hearing my story and be motivated to pursue those crazy ideas that seem impossible or unreachable," Cynthia said.

We look forward to seeing what Cynthia will continue to accomplish!
