In 2012, HSC alumna Sol Córdova graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from St. Edward’s University. She went on to receive her M.A. in Professional Counseling from Texas State University, and she is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving the Austin community. She is the owner of her own private practice, Mind & Sol Therapy.
Córdova’s time at St. Edward’s gave her the opportunity to become well prepared for attending graduate school. She was a part of the McNair Scholars program which helps students prepare for and apply to doctoral and master level programs.
Along with her participation in the program and the classes she took, she found that the materials she learned served as a foundation for her continued learning at the graduate level. For Córdova, what truly made an impact in her career development were the relationships she built with professors and staff at St. Edward’s.
Upon her graduation from St. Edward’s, Córdova worked for several organizations that helped her get in touch with her professional calling. While she worked at Breakthrough Central Texas, Córdova received “a tremendous amount of learning” that included leading programmatic efforts and building relationships with school partners. For her “the most impactful learning
opportunity was creating deep, authentic relationships with students and their families.”
During her time working at Breakthrough, Córdova pursued her Masters degree, and after six years of effort, she was able to become a small business owner of Mind & Sol Therapy. Through her work, she recognizes that one of the most impactful pieces she can help her clients with is “gaining awareness of internalized negative thoughts formulated from past relational experiences.” Her work is able to provide a “space for clients to accept and be content in their own skin, which is a truly rewarding career,” Córdova said.
We look forward to seeing what Sol continues to accomplish!
