HSC offers its scholars more than a scholarship and monitors their progress towards degree attainment. HSC helps students connect the dots to maximize their college experience and preparation for the workforce.
Apprenticeship Program
HSC’s Apprenticeship Program focuses on student exposure to career pathways and professionals. Through a series of workshops at professional worksites, participants learn through panel discussions, direct instruction, a facilities tour and networking opportunities with professionals in the field. The organization successfully piloted the program in partnership with the St. David’s Foundation at the St. David’s North Austin Medical Center last summer. The program served over 35 healthcare students and engaged the Austin & Central Texas Hispanic Nurses Association, the Hispanic Physicians Association and approximately 30 healthcare professionals. Several strategic collaborations are in the program’s pipeline for the 2012-1213 academic year.
Mentoring Program
HSC is proud to launch the pilot of its formal mentoring program this year. Motivated professionals eager to share their experiences are matched with HSC Scholars. Pairs are matched based on interests, personality types and career aspirations.
Internship Program
HSC will increase its programmatic offerings by engaging college and university students eager to learn and contribute. HSC works diligently to connect its students to their own internships and will now offer that kind of experience to them and other university students on a semester-long basis.
Outreach Program
The HSC Community Outreach Program brings a wealth of information to the Central Texas community on a grassroots level. Volunteers, scholarship recipients, parents and staff share critical information regarding a wide array of educational topics in a variety of settings. HSC demystifies the U.S. educational system and connects people to information critical to their success.
