Rosa is a first generation college student and an active member of the Hispanic Nursing Students Association and the University Leadership Initiative at UT Austin. She has volunteered over eighty hours at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and Dell Children’s Medical Center. She also works part-time as a bilingual translator and secretary for a family practice physician. After graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and a minor in Spanish, she plans to complete a master’s degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. As a bilingual nurse, her goal is to help educate and improve the quality of healthcare services of the growing Hispanic community.

Denisa is an exemplary student committed to a career in immigration law. Aside from her studies, she is currently employed at the UT Austin Child Development Center, Ballpark Apartments and at RecSports.
She previously worked for the Upward Bound program and at Posada Esperanza as a social work intern. Denisa is a member of Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. She is a first generation college student.

Alberto plans on pursuing a career where he can blend his love of law and business together. A graduating senior, he spent the summer interning at the Mexican Consulate’s office in Austin while continuing to work in his family’s restaurant. In addition to being fluent in Spanish, Alberto is conversant in American Sign Language. He is a first generation college student.

Efrain is pursuing a degree in business management from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. An avid soccer player, he attends the university on a partial soccer scholarship. He was on the Dean’s List his first semester and spent the second semester and summer in Madrid, Spain at Schiller International University. During his time there, he had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and traveled to nine countries throughout Europe.

In addition to her studies, Melissa served as a leadership counselor for four years with the Austin Capital Area Community Leadership Council. She was also a member of the All District Varsity Girls Lacrosse team, the Stony Point Link Crew and served over 111 community volunteer hours.

Steve was recognized with the Best Speaker Award for the Young Hispanics Leadership Debate.

Eva is committed to working with students, especially those that are low-income and first generation college-bound. Through her work career as a Texas College Advisor, Eva knows the struggles that students and families face through the college admissions process. She worked directly in college and career advising at both Bowie and Austin High Schools and as a member of the adjunct faculty at Austin Community College. Eva has volunteered with the Breakthrough Collaborative mentors, the AVID program and Financial Aid Saturdays with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Eva has also worked with the Texas Association of College Admission Counselors, the National Association of College Admission Counselors and Texas Counseling Association.

A senior at UT Austin, Micaela is eager to go to law school and continue her service to the community. Committed to her future goals, Micaela has completed three legal – related internships including one with the Office of El Paso District Attorney, Jaime Esparza, and another with the Office of Judge Linda Chew. She is an active member in Pi Sigma Alpha, Gamma Beta Phi and Minority Women Pursuing Law in addition to working with the Texas Interdisciplinary Mentor Academy at the university. Micaela is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, is a recipient of the Joe R. Long Endowed Scholarship in the Department of Government and Paul & the Tish Szurek Presidential Endowed Scholarship in Liberal Arts.

Andrew is a marketing and psychology student minoring in business ethics at UT Austin. He worked as a student manager for The Southwestern over the summer and is an active member of the Tejas Club, a prestigious men's social organization on campus. He is also working on the formation of a new organization on campus called the Texas Athletics Council which helps to promote sporting events and encourage student attendance. He volunteers at the Delta Delta Delta sorority house as a waiter during the week and works at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on weekends with community service volunteers.

An allied health student at Texas A&M, Ashley participates in Sports for Kids, a program that provides sporting opportunities for less fortunate children in the Bryan/College Station area. By taking these children to A&M sporting events, it allows them to realize that there are alternatives to the negative things they encounter and it allows them to have sports as their outlets. Ashely volunteered numerous hours over the summer with the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium while working part time.
