Sophia Del Toro

An HSC Scholar since 2005, Sophia Del Toro is the Social Director for the Hispanic Health Professions Organization and is a member of the Hispanic Physicians Organization at UT Austin. She has worked as a medical assistant for a local pediatrics office and as an undergraduate assistant for a cellular and molecular laboratory. Her past community service includes work includes the Neighborhood Longhorns and Brackenridge Hospital.

Adrian DeLeon

Adrian has a strong commitment to community service and over 2,000 combined hours of service as a highly decorated Eagle Scout. He recently received membership into the National Society of Leadership and Success or Sigma Alpha Pi and made the Dean’s List as well as the Honorable Mention List two consecutive semesters in a row. Adrian also earned the Venturing Leadership Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership to youth through Boy Scouts of America. He is an active member of the St. Edward’s University Orchestra, Sigma Alpha Pi, Hispanic Student Association, Hispanic Business Student Association and the Venturing and Sea Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, Adrian volunteers as an adult scoutmaster and assistant baseball coach at San Juan Diego Catholic High School and is an intramural team captain of his flag football, soccer and basketball teams.

A recent graduate of Stony Point High School, Brian is off to begin his studies in chemical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.  A well-rounded student, Brian is an Eagle Scout who participated in Varsity Tennis, Varsity Lacrosse, Tiger Band, served as Student Council Treasurer, the Science and Medical Academy Vice President, Spanish National Honor Society President and National Honor Society President.  Brian managed all these activities while maintaining a high grade point average and committing over 100 hours to community service.

Scott Delgado

Scott Delgado, a third year environmental science student at Baylor University, aims for a career in either law or environmental science. Scott balances his studies by working with the two live bears on campus (Lady and Joy) and as a senator in the student government. He is the Vice President of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce, which is dedicated to serving Baylor and her students. An active volunteer, Scott worked with Stepping Out, a community service program benefiting the larger Waco area. He is also a Resident Assistant for an ROTC Residence Hall with forty young men.

A committed and talented writer, Sam is a second year student at St. Edward’s University.  He holds a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and was acknowledged on the Dean’s List.  Committed to service, Sam volunteered with The Big Event, the Student Service Council, Hispanic Student Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He also participates in intramural flag football, basketball and soccer.

A recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Abel began his medical studies this fall at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.  He is the 2009 recipient of the Dr. Walter Hildebrand Scholarship and was inducted into the University Honor Roll.  He volunteered with Project 2009, Project Outreach, St. Austin Catholic Church and he shadowed general surgeon, Dr. Esquivel.  Abel is a first generation college student.

Antonio Flores

Antonio’s fascination with how the human body is susceptible to physiological change morphed into the dream of becoming a physician when his older brother and sister were diagnosed with thyroid disease. Antonio works outside of the classroom as the financial director for the Hispanic Health Professions Organization and in the Neurology Research Laboratory where he researched the underlying causes of alcohol addiction in the brain. Antonio has shadowed doctors in endocrinology, urology, family practice, and orthopedics. He worked as a mentor and tutor with the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan Program during the 2008-2009 academic year and is a first generation college student.

Tony Foianini

Tony Foianini, a 2008 graduate of Lago Vista High School, currently attends Columbia University. Outside of his academic work at Columbia, Tony is an active member of the Columbia University Chess Club and of Columbia University's Formula SAE race team. He also helped the community by joining other fellow students in a community engineering project that improved some needed areas for the Mt. Pleasant-Blythedale School and Hospital.

A recent graduate of Anderson High School, Arturo is on his way to a successful career in international business. At Anderson, he was the National Spanish Honor Society Vice President, won an Optimist International Youth Appreciation Week citation and was a guest student in the International Good Neighbor Council of Austin.  Arturo also participated in Varsity Soccer, Garden Club, Anderson Business Bootstrap Association, The Edition newspaper, Leadership Council and Key Club. He is a first generation college student.

Lilian Frausto

Lilian is a business major at Texas A&M University, but most importantly she is the loudest and proudest member of the Texas Fighting Aggie Class of 2012. She is a first generation college student that will not give up until she reaches her goals. She is a member of the Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) and had the opportunity to attend the annual conference for the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA) in Las Vegas during her first semester. She has been thoroughly involved with HBSA, and will help in planning and hosting next year’s NHBA annual conference in Forth Worth, Texas.
