Simon Andrade

Simon held a summer internship focused on border health in South Texas and worked as a research assistant at the Tuberculosis Epidemiology Project last semester. Simon graduated from UT Austin in December, 2010.
Tyler Kealoha Angullo

A recent Stony Point High School graduate, ranking 8th in his entire class, Tyler stayed very involved by becoming the President of the Student Council, as well as the captain of the drumline. Upon enrollment to Cornell, Tyler was offered a Cornell Tradition Fellowship for his academics in high school. With the help of this fellowship, he has become more involved by volunteering in his community.
Krysta Atkinson

Krysta will work at the Office of Women’s Programs and Studies in the fall and serves as the community service chair for Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc., a Latina sorority. This first generation college student is the lead coordinator of the Latina Youth Leadership Conference dedicated to inspiring middle school Latinas to attend an institution of higher education and to help empower them as young women.
Diana Anzaldua:

Diana is a first generation college student currently in her fourth and final year at St. Edward’s University. She is studying psychology with a concentration in substance abuse and plans on attending graduate school in the fall of 2012. She is a consistent volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Capital Area Food Bank and Austin Habitat for Humanity. Diana is currently working as an executive assistant for Southwest Key Program, Inc.
Lizbeth Arce:

Lizbeth is a first generation college student at Tulane University as a freshman student. She graduated from LBJ High School and was the captain of the varsity volleyball team as well as a member of the soccer team. She has volunteered for Sedalia Humane Society and the AACC Fashion Show. Lizbeth joined an on-campus club called Gente, which is composed of Latino students whose goal is to raise awareness of the Latino population on campus.

Jeremy is training for his first triathlon with the goal of participating in the longest charity ride in the world. This first generation college student tutors at his alma mater, Del Valle High School, volunteers with SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and works as a leasing agent in West Campus.

Pamela Carlile

Pamela, a first generation college student, is a member of the Texas State Honors Program, Delta Gamma and Alpha Sigma Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success. Last year she was inducted into the National English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta. She also participated in several service projects to benefit Service for Sight as well as the annual Bobcat Build. Pamela graduated in December 2010, completing her bachelor’s degree in a short three and a half years. She will pursue her goal of becoming a professor of English literature by pursuing graduate studies at Texas State next fall.
Samantha Chen

She also volunteers with Posada Esperanza, an organization that gives women shelter and resources to find a stable job among many other things.
Ashley Corona

She recently returned from Beijing, China, where she studied U.S./China Relations. Ashley also works with YouthLaunch, a group that mobilizes today’s youth to reduce underage drinking.

Abel is the 2009 recipient of the Dr. Walter Hildebrand Scholarship as well as the 2009 Milller Scholarship and the 2009 Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students. He gave H1N1 vaccinations, volunteers at St. Vincent’s Clinic, works with Caring Clowns and goes on medical service trips to the Texas/Mexico border. At present, Abel is interesting in pursuing a career either in family medicine or internal medicine. He is a first generation college student.
Antonio Flores

This first generation college student is the president and coordinator of the HSF UT Scholar Chapter, the social chair of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and is a member of the public relations department on the Project 2010 Committee.

She recently completed Leadership Austin’s Essential Program, was most recently nominated for the Austin Under 40 Awards and was selected as the 2008 YWCA Woman of the Year, Leader of Promise. Eva earned her Ph.D. in December 2010.
Clarissa Gaytan

Clarissa is a first generation college student who has worked as a Texas Works adviser and as a certified nursing assistant where she learned many important parts of patient care. Alyson Gonzales

Martin Lozano

During his second year, Martin helped coordinate and run MIT’s first-annual Science Extravaganza, an educational outreach event for middle and high-school students. He also worked as a teaching assistant in chemistry and biology. Martin is involved with MAES, MIT’s Office of Minority Education and Experimental Study Group. He is teaching calculus to incoming first year students this summer.
Gracia Manzanares:

Gracia is a first generation college student who graduated as a valedictorian from LBJ High School, and now attending Williams College in Massachusetts. She joined a Latino organization on campus known as VISTA as well as a music group called Acoustic Alliance. Gracia serves as the singer and songwriter for this group. She has built up a great deal of confidence through her transition and has proved to herself she is more than capable of succeeding in college.
Megan Martinez

Sully Mejia

She is thrilled to begin her nursing studies at UT Austin this spring after successfully transferring from Austin Community College.
Amanda Mendiola

Raquel Mendoza

Zenaida Miranda

Zenaida earned her undergraduate accounting degree from Southwestern University this past May. She mentored for Georgetown Partners in Education and the AMIGAS program. Zenaida will begin her career as a full time audit staff at Ernst & Young in Houston after completion of the masters program.
Amanda Motomochi

Isabella Rodriguez

Isabella has been in several group exhibitions and produced a number of very successful site specific installation pieces during the past two years. She is an artist’s apprentice under local Austin artist, Caprice Pierucci, and engages in community service activities that beautify the city and make public art more accessible and affordable for the community.
Melanie Rodriquez

Over this past summer, Rudy was enrolled in several classes which kept him on track for a successful fall semester. He began research on Dell Children’s Hospital under the supervision of an Architecture Professor and upon completion aims toward publication. Over the summer, Rudy gained experience in a clinical setting by interning with a mentor/physician at Seton Main Hospital 15 hours per week, as well as with a mentor/physician at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center for 15 hours per week. This semester he was a part of HSC’s pilot Ambassador Program. Rudy is a first generation college student.

Ashley is a first generation college student planning on entering a career in the medical field upon graduation. She is a frequent volunteer at St. David’s Hospital and is planning on taking the MCAT in January 2012.
Paul Samilpa

Kimberly Schwartz

Ana is trilingual, proficient in sports medicine and certified in CPR.

Judith is a McNair Scholar researching weight maintenance after weight loss. She has presented her research at the 15th Annual MKN Heartland Research Conference in Kansas City, MO. Judith is currently working two jobs, one of which being a CAMP mentor. Along with the mentoring, Judith is also involved with the organization Con Mi Madre, in where she promotes the importance of education while also mentoring young girls from elementary to high school.
Amanda Villarreal
