Organizational Overview
The Hispanic Scholarship Consortium (HSC), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that collaboratively leverages resources to provide scholarships to Central Texas Hispanic students and offers a network of support that mentors and empowers scholars to graduate from college as workforce ready leaders engaged in our community. Since 2004, HSC has collaboratively awarded over 176 scholars with more than $963,150 in assistance and 56 scholars have reached degree attainment.
Position Description
HSC seeks a Director of Programs and Operations to lead and evaluate all administrative and programmatic efforts.
Responsibilities
- Oversees HSC’s day-to-day operations, which includes, but is not limited to:
- Financial oversight of key HSC programs, initiatives and special events, as well as evaluate their respective performance and budget controls
- Serves as senior management role by directly supervising office staff, interns and work-study students.
- Lead all internal communication efforts with staff, HSC scholars, as well as key stakeholders
- Assist in preparation of internal reports, contracts, and program proposals
- Take a lead role in the development of staff performance objectives and in the evaluation of performance against organizational goals
- Maintain management and internal financial controls applicable to a 501(c)3 organization
- Manage and evaluate all scholarship program activities including:
- Online scholarship application
- Application process and scholarship inquiries
- Individual fund requirements
- Scholarship screening committees
- Interviews and the award process
- Manage and evaluate all outreach efforts including:
- Engagement materials
- Campus visits
- Ambassador Program
- Dynamic presentations regarding college access, scholarship and HSC services for school and community groups
- Manage and evaluate all scholar persistence and success efforts including:
- Scholar engagement through regular communication
- Progress checks with scholars
- Case management and guidance for scholars with additional needs
- Work closely with the Executive Director to coordinate, manage and evaluate the annual HSC Scholar Leadership Conference
- Serve as the staff liaison to the Scholar Leadership Conference committee
- Supervise, coach and empower a program associate and a program intern charged with supporting all programmatic operations
- Conduct program evaluations and prepare reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors and other stakeholders as required
- Carry out other duties as directed by the Executive Director.
Required Skill Set
- Experience successfully working with college-age students, especially those from underrepresented communities and those considered first generation
- Experience with program management and evaluation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for varied audiences
- Demonstrated ability to make effective presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work with people at all levels of an organization across a diverse range of educational and social backgrounds
- Experience managing volunteers
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects
- Working knowledge of Spanish
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Public Affairs or related field
- Three years of experience working directly with students, parents and stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Public Affairs or related field
- Three+ years of experience working directly with students, parents and stakeholders
- Three years of experience in program management and evaluation
- Bilingual English-Spanish candidates strongly encouraged to apply
